Fall Admission Special Examination (for admission in September of 2017)

Number of places to be offered: 10 (International and Domestic Applications combined)

International Applications

For applicants who have graduated, or expect to graduate by the time of enrollment, from an overseas educational institute or an accredited IB school located in Japan with an IB Diploma including English A: LIT or English A: LAL.

Application Documents
  1. Application form (downloadable from the official website of Hosei University).
  2. One photo (4 cm by 3 cm) attached to the application form.
  3. Certification of high school graduation and school reports (sealed)
  4. Certified results of a university entrance qualification test, if the student has completed his/her secondary education based on the following non-Japanese curriculum: IB (Worldwide), SAT or ACT (USA), GCE A-level (UK), HSC or the state equivalent (Australia), UE (NZ), and so on. Graduates from high schools in countries other than the UK, Canada, Australia, NZ, Germany and France are required to submit IB or SAT/ACT results in principle.Score reports of English proficiency tests (taken within 2 years prior to the application deadline).
  5. (Holders of an IB Diploma with English A: LIT or English A: LAL are exempted from the score reports.)
  6. One of the following: (a) Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) score, (b) Business Japanese Proficiency Test (BJT) score, or (c) self-assessment of Japanese language proficiency (native or native-like, advanced, intermediate, or elementary level).
  7. A statement of purpose in English, approximately 1,000 words in length, typed.
  8. Letters of recommendation from two full-time teachers of a high school the applicant attended (issued within 6 months prior to the application deadline).
English Language Requirements

The applicant must meet one of the following minimum English proficiency requirements.

  • TOEFL iBT: 80 (TOEFL-ITP score will not be accepted)
  • IELTS (Academic Module): band 6.5

Domestic Applications

For applicants who have graduated, or expect to graduate by the time of enrollment, from a high school located in Japan.

Application Documents
  1. Application form (downloadable from the official website of Hosei University).
  2. One photo (4 cm by 3 cm) attached to the application form.
  3. Certification of high school graduation and school reports (sealed)
  4. Score reports of English proficiency tests (taken within 2 years prior to the application deadline).
  5. A statement of purpose in Japanese, within 2,000 characters in length, handwritten.
  6. A statement of purpose in English, approximately 1,000 words in length, typed.
  7. Letters of recommendation from two full-time teachers of a high school the applicant attended (issued within 6 months prior to the application deadline).
English Language Requirements

The applicant must meet one of the following minimum English proficiency requirements.

  • TOEFL iBT: 76 (TOEFL ITP scores will not be accepted.)
  • IELTS (Academic Module): band 6.0
  • TOEIC: 820 (Score certificate must be issued by an institute in Japan. TOEIC IP scores will not be accepted.)
  • STEP (Eiken): 1st grade or pre-1st grade (with 2450 in CSE2.0 or 2700 in CSE1.0 for the test taken after June 2015)
Selection Process

First stage: Document screening
Second stage (for all successful first stage applicants): Interview and essay exam, both in English
