GIS Professor Daiki Hiramori Wins Outstanding Presentation Prize

Another new GIS faculty member scooped a recent award: Professor Daiki Hiramori earned an Outstanding Presentation prize at the XPLANE Cafe 5 Minute Challenge research presentation competition in December 2021. XPLANE is a Japanese institute that supports students in earning a degree at the graduate school level and the XPLANE Cafe is a way to showcase graduate-level research produced by alumni. The idea is for a scholar to convey their research in five minutes in terms that anyone can understand. Professor Hiramori boiled down years of research from his English-language dissertation “Sexuality Stratification in Contemporary Japan: A Study in Sociology”, into an absorbing five-minute Japanese presentation entitled “LGBT and Money: Is the Income of Sexual and Gender Minorities in Japan High or Low?”

Well done, Daiki, for receiving high praise from the judges who presented the awards.
