Overview

GIS Overseas Academic Study Program (OAS)

GIS offers academic study abroad opportunities at four destinations: United States, Canada, United Kingdom and New Zealand.

Currently GIS is affiliated with the following universities for OAS:

San José State University (SJSU)

Location
Silicon Valley: one hour south of San Francisco

SJSU, established in 1857, is the number-one supplier of education, computer science and business graduates to Silicon Valley, the world’s high-tech capital. International students have the opportunity to enroll in undergraduate courses as diverse as Child Development, Introduction to Environmental Issues, and Introduction to Graphic Design. The Student Union offers an array of event, recreation and entertainment services to SJSU’s students.

Entrance Requirements

For application to SAS: TOEFL iBT 71 / IELTS 6.0
All students may be required to take a test (TOEFL PBT and writing; there may also be an oral test) on arrival to determine how many academic courses can be taken. Students who meet English proficiency and other requirements may enroll in 1 to 4 undergraduate courses.

Costs

The costs for study abroad are separate from the tuition for Hosei University. Those costs, including airfare to and from the host university and medical insurance, will be paid by the student.

University of Sussex

Location
Falmer, near Brighton: one hour south of London
on the south coast of England

The University of Sussex is highly placed in the world THE university rankings. Established in 1961, it is just an hour from central London. Its Study Abroad at Sussex program offers international students the opportunity to enroll in a variety of undergraduate courses, while its Students’ Union, the center of activity for over 18,000 students, is the place for them to make friends and enjoy British youth culture.

For undergraduate program:

Students who meet English proficiency and other requirements may enroll in 2 to 4 undergraduate courses.

Housing

Currently, the University of Sussex only offers hotel accommodation for visiting part-year students. The hotels made available by the University provide self-catered, shared furnished rooms, with access to a communal space and cooking facilities.

University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI)

Location

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island: on the east coast of
Canada, between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia

UPEI has a history dating back 200 years. Its 140-acre campus serves as a home away from home for each of its students. UPEI offers its students a wide range of programs and courses from its four faculties (arts, education, science, and veterinary medicine) and two schools (business and nursing).

Entrance Requirements

Students are required to take an English placement test (CanTEST) on arrival. Those scoring 4.0 (similar to TOEFL iBT 60-78 or IELTS 6.0) may combine academic and English courses; those scoring 4.5 (similar to TOEFL iBT 80 with a minimum of 20 in each category or IELTS 6.5) may take five academic courses, without any English courses.

Massey University

Location
Manawatu Campus – Palmerston North: on New Zealand’s
North Island, two hours north of the capital, Wellington

Massey University’s Manawatu Campus, established in 1927, has nearly 9,000 students studying in state-of-the-art facilities on beautiful, spacious grounds. GIS students can experience the Kiwi lifestyle and culture, and travel and make new friends while gaining credits toward a GIS degree.

Outgoing Student Exchange Program (OSEP)

Selected third and fourth year students are awarded the Hosei Year Abroad Scholarship for study at overseas partner universities. Currently Hosei is affiliated with 49 universities in 18 countries worldwide.
